What just happened? Microsoft first brought its Xbox app to Samsung TVs in 2022, then expanded to Amazon Fire TVs in 2023. Now, it’s adding select LG smart TVs to the lineup, giving users access to hundreds of games via cloud streaming – no console required.
To stream Xbox games on an LG TV, users need a compatible model, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and a Bluetooth-enabled controller. Supported options include the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Xbox Elite Series 2, and the PlayStation 5 DualSense.
Xbox Cloud Gaming now works on 2022 OLED models, select 2023 LG Smart TVs, and most 2024 – 2025 sets, including smart monitors running webOS24 or newer. Microsoft also plans to support the StanbyME rollable smart touchscreen TV soon. A complete list of supported models is available on Microsoft’s website.
This update will allow LG TV owners to stream some of the most popular games in the Game Pass Ultimate catalog, including Avowed, South of Midnight, and upcoming titles, such as Towerborne. Users can also stream Xbox games they already own. Microsoft listed Assassin’s Creed Shadows, NBA 2K25, and Hogwarts Legacy as examples.
Users can access the Xbox app from the LG gaming portal on the TV’s home page under the gaming Q-card. On webOS 24 or newer devices, users must download the Xbox app from the app store. Microsoft specifically stated that 2022 OLED TVs and select 2023 Smart TVs must have the latest firmware to access the feature – presumably newer 2024 and 2025 models are compatible out of the box. Once installed, subscribers merely sign into their Microsoft account and pair a controller to get started.
The Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog now contains nearly 400 games, including Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V, Forza Horizon 5, Rainbow Six Siege, Madden 25, and Halo Infinite. The service also provides day-one access to select new Xbox releases. By launching the Xbox app on LG TVs and other devices running webOS, Microsoft aims to make its cloud gaming service more accessible to a broader audience.
