Waymo, the autonomous vehicle subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has launched a public transit credit program in Los Angeles to encourage the integration of its driverless ride-hailing service with public transportation. This initiative, running from February 4 to April 1, 2025, offers riders a $3 credit for future Waymo rides when they connect to or from any of eight eligible transit stations in the Los Angeles area. The credits are applied to users’ accounts the following day and are valid for 60 days. The program aims to promote sustainable and convenient travel options, particularly for passengers commuting to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and frequently used bus stops serving LAX travelers.
This Los Angeles program follows a successful pilot in the San Francisco Bay Area in late 2024, where Waymo offered similar incentives to riders connecting with select transit stations. The San Francisco pilot, which ran from October 17 through November 15, 2024, provided a $3 credit to users’ accounts for future rides when they utilized Waymo’s services to or from designated transit locations.
By integrating its autonomous ride-hailing service with public transit, Waymo aims to enhance access to sustainable transportation and support cleaner transit connections in urban areas.
