Singaporean authorities have charged three individuals in connection with a fraud case involving the alleged illegal transfer of advanced Nvidia AI chips to China. The accused include two Singaporeans, Alan Wei Zhaolun and Aaron Woon Guo Jie of Aperia Cloud Services, and a Chinese national, Li Miang.
The allegations involve the procurement of Dell and Supermicro servers, potentially equipped with Nvidia chips, which were then exported to Malaysia under false representations regarding the end-users. Authorities are investigating whether Malaysia was the final destination or if the servers were subsequently transferred to China.
This case is part of a broader investigation into 22 individuals and companies suspected of misrepresenting products, possibly to bypass U.S. export controls on advanced AI hardware to China.
Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Law, K Shanmugam, stated that the servers in question were supplied by U.S. firms Dell and Super Micro Computer. Singaporean authorities are collaborating with U.S. and Malaysian counterparts to verify if the servers contained items under U.S. export controls.
